by Joey (w Male/Female Group) – Our Own Little World, ’60 (Joy 243)
by Joey (w Female Group) – My First Love Letter (S.W.A.K.), ’60 (Joy 243)
After hearing these sides (see comment for link), there are auditory differences between ‘Joey’ and ‘Little Joey.’ The male part of the backing on the a-side, does not sound like the ‘Flips’ either.
The Flips originated as the ‘Elads’ with Jimmy Dilks and in the early 60s, Joey Hall replaced Dilks and the group became the Flips.
- The fact ‘Joey’ and ‘Little Joey & The Flips’ both recorded for the Joy label (while 2 years apart) has confused/mixed up the artist accreditation.
Flips (Philadelphia) previously Elads-Lead Jimmy Dilks – African Twist/ Ring Dong, ’61 (Unreleased)
- African Twist was the demo for Bongo Stomp.
- Jimmy Dilks re-performed his falsetto part on Bongo Stomp.
Flips (Philadelphia) (Little Joey & The)
– Bongo Stomp/ Lost Love, ’62 (Joy 262)
– Bongo Gully/ It Was Like Heaven, ’62 (Joy 268)
– The Mystery Of The Night/ Hot Rod, ’75 (Monogram 111)
as Joey & The Flips – The Beachcomber/ Fool, Fool, Fool, ’64 (Cameo 327)
“Joey” is a male singer. On “Our Own Little World” he’s backed by a male group. The female backing group on “My First Love Letter (S.W.A.K.)” are presumably The Flips. Please note: The correct spelling of “(SWAK)” is “(S.W.A.K.)”.
Thanks for your youtube link and input on the Joy 243 titles. See the changes in the post.
Much appreciated.
